Release of 2025 WEkEO User Uptake Report

May 19, 2026

The 2025 WEkEO Key Performance Indicator report offers a comprehensive snapshot of how WEkEO, a Copernicus data access platform, is scaling its reach, deepening engagement, and supporting a rapidly expanding global user base.

WEkEO Community and User Uptake

The platform now supports 41,442 registered representing 8,187 organisations worldwide. This breadth underscores WEkEO’s evolution from a European data service into a truly global infrastructure for accessing Copernicus data.

The report also highlights a shift in how the platform is being used. In 2025, WEkEO users generated nearly 3 million data requests and downloaded 773 terabytes of data. These figures point to sustained, operational use rather than occasional exploration. With over 9,000 active users logging into the platform, engagement is becoming more regular and embedded in workflows, suggesting WEkEO is increasingly supporting real-world applications, from research to operational decision-making.

WEkEO User Support and Outreach

A notable strength of WEkEO lies in its user support model, with high volumes of requests handled efficiently through a combination of self-service resources and direct assistance. Strong satisfaction levels suggest the platform is continuing to scale while maintaining a responsive user experience.

Training and outreach also remain an important part of WEkEO’s growth. Throughout 2025, WEkEO delivered a series of training events that attracted thousands of participants and received very positive feedback, helping users build the skills needed to apply Copernicus data in practice.

The full report provides deeper insights into user behaviour, evolving data needs, and the tools shaping the next phase of WEkEO’s development.

WEkEO’s JupyterHub GPU-enabled environment supports the effective use of foundation models for ocean science by making fine-tuning accessible, scalable, and practical. By allowing users to adapt pre-trained models to their own data and use cases, it helps bridge the gap between experimentation and real-world research and application.

On 24 and 26 February 2026, WEkEO held a two-half-day training session on the critical topic of Natural Disasters: Earth Observation for Extreme Events.

The Copernicus Coastal Thematic Hub is a clear demonstration of WEkEO’s real-world value.
